Jessica Lange has wanted to retire for 30 years.
The 66-year-old actress - who has 33-year-old daughter Shura with Mikhail Baryshnikov, as well as 30-year-old Hannah and 28-year-old Samuel with playwright Sam Shepard - constantly thinks about turning her back on her career to do something different but can't help but get "seduced" by the profession every time she is offered an exciting new role.
She said: "I've been in the process of retiring for the last 30 years.
"It's becoming more and more imminent. By next year I will have been doing this for 40 years, which seems like many lifetimes.
"I do think, 'It's been great, but now I'm done.' Maybe move on to something entirely different.
"My kids always tease me, 'You've been retiring since we've known you!' It's true.
"But the thing about acting, it's so seductive. You get drawn into a role ... it's like a love affair. There's something really alive about it, and you remember why you were doing it to begin with. It can still seduce you after 40 years, which is kind of amazing."
The 'American Horror Story' star plans to do something very different when she eventually does give up acting.
Asked by Lizzie Caplan in a Hollywood Reporter round table discussion - which also featured Taraji P. Henson, Ruth Wilson, Viola Davis, and Maggie Gyllenhaal - what she'd like to do next, she said: "I've only done two things in my life -- be a waitress and an actress. So I'd probably do something far afield. I've even thought, 'What if I studied to be a falconer?' "
