The 'On the Floor' hitmaker hates being away from her seven-year-old twins Max and Emme, who she has with her ex-husband Marc Anthony, and likes to make sure she has a video conversation with them every day when she's away.
She explained: "I am busy, and they know it. And they know part of their job is helping me get sleep.
"If I'm sleeping in, they're very quiet, like, 'Mummy needs to sleep! She worked late last night!' We're a team. Becoming a mum makes you stronger but also more gentle, especially with yourself--and that changes everything."
And the 46-year-old singer will even take pictures of herself beside her children's beds when they're sleeping at night if she gets in late so they know she was there at some point.
She said: "[It's] so they know I was there."
Meanwhile, the brunette beauty, who has been romantically linked to backing dancer Casper Smart for many years, is keen to focus on her career and her children at the moment rather than get caught up in the idea of love and marriage.
Speaking in the February issue of InStyle magazine, she said: "I need to be happy on my own. If someone fits into that, great. But if they don't, that's OK too."
