The former Take That star is supposedly to be "fascinated by the mind" and wants to discover even more about behaviour and mental processes after quitting the band - made up of Gary Barlow, Howard Donald and Mark Owen - in September.
A source told The Sun newspaper: "Jason was fascinated by the mind.
"He is a great listener and is known among pals as a bit of a sensitive soul who likes to think about the big picture."
This will be the second time Orange has delved in the field- in 2001 he did a two-year access course in the subject at South Trafford College in his native Greater Manchester.
He previously said: "When I finally decide to get out, my main focus will be developing my interest in psychology."
Jason, who used to date comedienne Catherine Tate, has many possibilities as his course included insights into biology, history and English. As well as education, the singer is interested in travelling more.
A source recently said: "Jason hated being in it first time around. He genuinely likes going off travelling the world with a backpack, being anonymous and fancies himself as a thinker. He feels he's got his life back. He can now kick on and do what he wants to do."
