James Van Der Beek had a "crash course" in crowd surfing.
The 40-year-old actor has admitted he was briefed on what to do when he leapt into an audience, and was warned some people could make a grab for his personal belongings, and his crotch.
Speaking to Metro newspaper, the 'Dawson's Creek' star said: "I got a crash course: remove your phone and wallet because people will take anything that isn't tied to you. Cover your nuts because they will try to punch you there. don't get carried out too far out or you'll get swallowed up. It was pretty exhilarating."
And the star has admitted he did step in for the American DJ Diplo during some gigs, but only for a "minute or so".
James explained: "I stepped in for Diplo at a couple of shows for a minute or so and I realised DJing is the same as any art form. If it's about you and your ego, you'll make terrible art. Thirty thousand people were staring up at me, saying 'Move me, make me throw my hands up in the air.' If that energy stops at the DJ, the audience would have a really crappy time. The DJ has to read the crowd and give that back."
