Jack Klugman's son didn't intend to "hurt" Cory Monteith's family.

The late 'The Odd Couple' star's son, Adam Klugman, has apologised for criticising the organisers of the 65th Primetime Emmy Awards in Los Angeles for planning a special tribute to the late actor, 31, at the ceremony this evening (22.09.13), because he overdosed on heroin and alcohol in July.

He told E! News: "Tonight is for celebrating and I know my father would not want me or his name to be associated with any more negativity.

"After a certain point it becomes hurtful to Monteith family and that has never been my intent. I feel that I've said enough."

His comments come just one day after he said he was "insulted" that Cory was being honoured instead of his father, who won three Emmy awards and died in December at the age of 90.

He told the Los Angeles Times: "They're celebrating this self-inflicted tragedy instead of celebrating the life of my father, who won three Emmys.... Cory Monteith never won an Emmy."

He added: "It's an insult and it really seems typical of this youth-centric culture that has an extremely short attention span and panders to only a very narrow demographic."

Producers have selected five people to be recognised during the special In Memoriam segment - including Cory, 'Sopranos' star James Gandolfini, producer Gary David Goldberg, actress Jean Stapleton and actor Jonathan Winters.

The 65th Primetime Emmy Awards will be broadcast live on US channel CBS.
