The Steps singer and his long-term boyfriend revealed via an animated video on YouTube that they will become parents to two babies, who a surrogate is due to give birth to next year.
In the clip, cartoon versions of the couple announced the news in speech bubbles before showing scan pictures of the unborn tots.
They explain: "Together we've been on lots of adventures! But our biggest adventure is about to begin!
"For a long time we have been wishing and our wish is about to come true.
"We are going to be dads! There's more. It's twins!"
The '5, 6, 7, 8' singer shared the video on Twitter, writing alongside the link: "I'VE BEEN BURSTING TO TELL YOU SOMETHING ...... :0) (sic)"
The 39-year-old star and his theatre director partner - who have been together for eight years - were left devastated when another surrogate miscarried in 2011.
At the time, Ian said: "Finding out our surrogate had miscarried was like being hit in the face. It was the worst thing that has ever happened to me.
"I just feel really empty and helpless. Right now, nobody can do anything for us. The only person who can help me is Craig."
