The 'Vampire Diaries' actor and the 'Twilight' actress tied the knot at the Tuscali Mountain Inn in Topanga, California on Monday (26.04.15) and the 26-year-old bride reportedly let her new husband make the key decisions for their big day.
A source said: "Nikki originally wanted a small wedding. But Ian envisioned a big wedding. She was happy to let him call the shots."
Guests at the rustic-themed celebration - which included the 36-year-old actor's 'Vampire Diaries' co-stars Kat Graham, Paul Wesley, Matt Davis and Phoebe Tonkin - dined at long tables decorated with white flowers then danced to a live band.
Instead of gifts, Ian and Nikki - who wore a custom couture Claire Pettibone gown - asked well-wishers to make donations to the Ian Somerhalder Foundation for rescued animals.
Following their nuptials, the couple - who got engaged in January after six months of dating - are planning a lengthy honeymoon.
A source told Us Weekly magazine: "Both of their schedules are pretty clear for a while. They're planning an extravagant trip around the world!"
Ian's 'Vampire Diaries' co-star Kat recently confessed she believes the couple are true "soul mates".
She said previously: "I haven't met two people that were more of soul mates than those guys. They are so absolutely amazing. Everyone loves them, and I really can't imagine him with anyone else."
Nikki was previously married to singer Paul McDonald, while Ian had a two-year romance with co-star Nina Dobrev.
