The 'Nashville' star - who has been open about her battle with postpartum depression - insists she hasn't been too hard on herself when it comes to getting back in shape following the birth of 17-month-old daughter Kaya.

She shared: "The more that you give yourself grace, the better that you feel. You go through the, 'I'm not going to eat,' 'I'm not going to eat this,' 'I'm not going to eat that.' Part of [losing the weight] is mind, body and spirit. Spirit's a huge part of it, so being happy and being content [helps]."

The 26-year-old actress also gets her daughter involved in her workouts, joking the little one is the "best weight [she] can find".

She added to PEOPLE magazine: "Working out with your baby is actually great. When I'm holding her in my arms, I lift her above my head, or do bicep curls with her, or I'll dance with her a lot. She's the best weight I can find!"

Meanwhile, Hayden previously admitted she was "terrified" she wouldn't be accepted if it was made public that she suffered from postpartum depression.

She said: "I was always so terrified that people weren't going to accept me. I finally just went, 'I'm tired of living afraid. I'm tired of living in fear of what people are going to think, so you know, I'm just going to put it all out there on the table and I'm not going to worry about the judgment.'

"The more open I was, the more acceptance I got from people. I got so much support and so much love. I was floored. I feel much more exposed, yes, but in a great way."
