Hailee Steinfield says the song 'Flashlight' from 'Pitch Perfect 2' is "darker" than people may realise.
The 18-year-old actress believes the track - which makes the Barden Bellas singing group the world champions at the a cappella competition which closes the movie - has special significance for her character Emily Junk in the comedy sequel.
She said: "This song is rather emotional and a little darker and I think with my character Emily, someone who gives off positive vibes, still has moments where they don't know what tomorrow's going to be like and so this song really represents for her what it's like to go through life not knowing."
'Flashlight' was originally written by Sia and Sam Smith and Hailee admits it was an honour for her and her co-stars, who include Brittany Snow, Rebel Wilson, Anna Kendrick and Alexis Knapp, to get to sing a track created by two such talented artists.
She added: "It's unreal, really, to be a part of a movie this awesome to begin with and to be singing a song that has been written by two artists that I admire."
Hailee was speaking in a mini-film taken behind the scenes of the movie by Beats x Beats.
Beats by Dr. Dre launched the Beat x Beat series of videos to demonstrate how some of the world's biggest artists create their tracks. Musicians that have recently been featured in the series include Ariana Grande, Coldplay, Disclosure, Kendrick Lamar, Rixton and Rudimental.
Hailee fell in love with the track when she first heard it.
She said: "I first heard the song the week after I (began) to make the movie. I went around a corner I put my headphones and I listened to the song and I remember just loving it."
