Gwen Stefani's "dreams were shattered" by her divorce.
The 46-year-old singer split from Gavin Rossdale - the father of her sons Kingston, 10, Zuma, seven, and two-year-old Apollo - last February after 13 years of marriage amid speculation he had been unfaithful with their children's nanny and she never expected her life to pan out the way it has.
Gwen admitted: "My dreams were shattered. All I wanted my whole life was to have babies, be married, like what my parents have."
The pair initially kept their break-up a secret and the No Doubt star admits she went through "hell" in the months afterwards.
She told America's Harper's Bazaar magazine: "Everybody knows what happened next...
"It was the beginning of hell. Like six, seven, eight months of torture, trying to figure out this big secret."
And the 'What You Waiting For' singer was stunned when she returned to work on 'The Voice' that July and her fellow coach Blake Shelton announced he had split from his wife Miranda Lambert.
But she admits his news felt like a "gift" as she had someone to bond with over their turbulent personal lives.
She recalled: "There I was with my big secret, right? And that's when Blake was like,'Everybody, before we go out there, I want to let everyone know that by the time this airs, I will be divorced.'
"[I felt] exposed somehow, you know? But it was like being handed this gift of a friend who was going through the exact same thing at the exact same time."
Gwen and Blake went on to find love with one another and the blonde beauty admits their new relationship has completely turned her life around.
She said: "And then it was just like everything flipped. It went from horrible to, like, hopeful and, like, 'Wow, God, you just don't know what's gonna happen next...'
"I'm at a certain time in my life where I feel like I'm doing what I'm supposed to do. Every day is art, you know? Some days are really bad, and some days are so good."
