Gwen Stefani admits the reason her marriage ended is a "good, juicy story".
The 46-year-old singer split from husband Gavin Rossdale last year after 13 years of marriage, and though it has been rumoured he was unfaithful with the family nanny, the No Doubt star won't divulge the reason for their separation, partly for the sake of their sons Kingston, nine, Zuma, seven, and Apollo, two.
She said: "If I could, I would just tell you everything, and you would just be in shock. It's a really good, juicy story."
The 'Used To Love You' hitmaker admits she felt "dead" when her marriage ended and had no idea how to "save" herself.
Recalling her emotional state at the time, she told the New York Times newspaper: "I'm gonna die. I am dead, actually. How do I save myself? What am I going to do? How do I not go down like this?"
Gwen returned to songwriting and admitted being in the recording studio was a huge help.
She said: "[I thought], 'I have to make music out of this. That's what God wants for me'.
"Being in that room and being creative, it was the only place that felt good -- I was like, I love the smell of this room."
The 'Don't Speak' singer is frustrated that the breakdown of her marriage means she now only has her sons 50 per cent of the time.
She said: "It's like, the most unjust, unbelievable system."
However, she admits that has given her the "blessing" of space and time to heal and work on her music.
And these days, Gwen - who is now dating fellow 'The Voice' coach Blake Shelton - is having an "awesome" time, though she is still coming to terms with the end of her marriage.
She said: "I'm not going to say I'm not still picking up the pieces and every day isn't a challenge.
"I'm still in shock. But it's an awesome time."
