Giuliana Rancic thinks it is good to be "under-prepared" for live TV.
The E! presenter is always handed detailed notes when she is due to work at red carpet events, but would rather not do too much research as she is more relaxed when she undertakes a spontaneous approach.
She said: "E! gives me and my co-host, Ryan Seacrest, these binders with research and prepared questions; Ryan reads it all but I'm more relaxed.
"I like to be a little less prepared, because then I notice little things - like Amal Clooney is wearing gloves that maybe don't fit perfectly.
"I wouldn't notice these details if I was fixating on my notecards. Basically the more under-prepared I am, the better."
The 40-year-old star faced an awkward situation at the Golden Globe awards earlier this year when George Clooney refused her request for him to down a shot of tequila with her, but Giuliana insists she wasn't embarrassed because the segment got people talking.
She told Britain's Glamour magazine: "At this year's Golden Globes, I had a bottle of George Clooney's tequila, Casamigos, and my plan was to get him to do a shot of it on the red carpet.
"When George walked over, I told him my idea and he goes, 'Giuliana, you know I would do it - but I'm accepting the big lifetime achievement award, so I can't tonight.' So I did the shot instead.
"I hadn't planned on drinking live on air, but it got people talking on the internet - and that's what mattered."
