George Clooney is "very sorry" to hear of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie's divorce.
The 55-year-old actor has been a close friend of the Hollywood hunk since they met on the set of 'Ocean's Eleven' in 2001, but has claimed he "didn't know" anything about his split from the 'Tomb Raider' star and was shocked by the news after it was reported the 41-year-old actress filed for divorce on Monday (19.09.16), citing irreconcilable differences.
Speaking to American news channel CNN, the 'Money Monster' actor said: "I didn't know that. Wow. I feel very sorry then.
"That's a sad story and unfortunate for a family. It's an unfortunate story about a family.
"I feel very sorry to hear that. That's the first I've heard of it."
The 'By The Sea' actress reportedly submitted the divorce papers amid concerns about how Brad, 52, was parenting their six children, Maddox, 15, Pax, 12, Zahara, 11, Shiloh, 10, and twins Knox and Vivienne, eight.
Angelina is now seeking full physical custody, but wants to allow Brad visitation rights.
The divorce might have come as a shock to Hollywood hunk George, but it would seem other friends of the famous couple knew of the troubles in the two-year marriage, and said the divorce had been "brewing for a long time".
A friend of the pair said: "I could say the divorce announcement is a shock, but it's not. This divorce deal has been brewing for a long time.
"When Angelina underwent her mastectomy in 2013, her health and life in general became a priority for her. Her views on life changed. Suddenly she saw herself walking in her late mother's shoes - and she was no longer that wild, fun loving woman she used to be, she was taking things a lot more seriously.
"Brad was supportive, and wanted to be there for her, so they decided to marry - more for the sake of their six children than themselves. They wanted the kids to have the security of knowing their parents were committed because they had been very affected by their mom's ill health."
