Gary Oldman's 98-year-old mother is "very proud" of his awards success.

The 59-year-old star scooped the Best Actor award at the Oscars for his portrayal of Sir Winston Churchill in 'The Darkest Hour', and his mother has responded after he thanked her for her "love and support" in his acceptance speech
Kathleen Oldman, known as Kay to her friends, told the Daily Mail newspaper: "I used to tell Gary stories about living in London during World War II and listening to Churchill on the wireless.
"So to have him win for portraying this great man made me very proud."
Gary ended his speech by quipping: "Put the kettle on, I'm bringing Oscar home."
Kay lives with Gary and his wife, art curator and photographer Gisele Schmidt, who shared an intimate snap of them celebrating his Oscar win in their kitchen in Los Angeles on Instagram.
Gary moved his mother from Bermondsey, south London, to an apartment near his home in LA shortly after the success of his semi-autobiographical film 'Nil By Mouth', which he wrote and directed, portraying the difficulties of growing up with an abusive, alcoholic father.
Kay recently moved in with Gary, as he explained: "She can't see very well and her hearing's poor."
Gary has declared his mother is his hero.
Speaking after the Oscars ceremony, he said: "I can remember holding her hand as she walked me to school. You have to imagine the postwar years of the early 1960s when there were still bomb sites in parts of South London.
"She was my first champion and always encouraged me back in those early days of trying to work out if I could make a go of this acting thing.
"I would see Albert Finney and the others on the cinema screen and they were the ones I looked up to, and she encouraged me to go for it. And I did."
