Gary Lineker has thanked fans for their support following his split from wife Danielle Bux.
The pair announced the end of their marriage on Tuesday (12.01.16) after six years as husband and wife.
Following the shock news, Gary wrote on Twitter: "Thank you all for your kind words. @DanielleBux and I had many wonderful years together. We remain very close and the greatest of friends."
He later shared a sarcastic picture of the photographers waiting outside his house, alongside the caption: "The warmth towards us has been incredible today. These kind chaps actually came to the house this morning and are now following me everywhere. How wonderfully supportive."
According to reports, it was the pair's disagreements over having children that led to their relationship breakdown.
Danielle, 36, has one daughter from a previous relationship while former soccer star Gary, 55, has four grown up sons from a former marriage. While Danielle was apparently keen to further extend her family, Gary is said to not want any more kids.
Despite their disagreements, they are still on good terms.
A source told The Sun newspaper: "They both know it is the right thing to do and are looking forward to the future. They are convinced they will stay friends."
The news was revealed after a Decree Nisi was granted by a judge. The former couple didn't use any solicitors and filed for divorce using a government website where they filled out the forms together. It cost about £400, rather tens of thousands in legal bills.
