Frank Lampard has revealed it took a "long" for his children and new wife Christine Bleakley to develop the great relationship they have now.
Christine, 37, has been dating the soccer star since 2009 but he admits there were "difficulties" involved for his daughters Luna, 11, and Isla, nine, whom he has with his former fiancée Elen Rivas, in adapting to having a stepmother, but now they all have a strong bond.
He explained: "The step-parent thing is a real difficult thing, when you're not involved in the situation you have no idea of how many difficulties there are for everyone, particularly Christine's position, you know?
"It's been a long game, and you develop it slowly and fair play to all of them ... I'm the bystander in that situation."
Christine's fantastic relationship with Frank's girls was evident when the two youngsters opted to share some kind words about her during their sweet speech at the couple's wedding last year.
Frank said: "Yes, and there was no prompting there, that was their own want to get up and speak about her."
The couple became husband and wife just before Christmas at St. Paul's church in Knightsbridge, London, and, although they spent months planning the ceremony, Frank was riddled with nerves when they did their practice run three days before the big day.
Speaking in a pre-recorded interview on 'This Morning' today (11.02.16), he added: "We did a run through at the church and I was really nervous with nobody there strangely enough, but on the day, I wasn't too nervous at all really. I really enjoyed it, I expected to be more nervous than I was."
