Evan Rachel Wood says becoming a mother is the best thing that has ever happened to her.
The 28-year-old actress has a three-year-old son - whose name she has not yet revealed - with former husband Jamie Bell and Evan believes having a child has made her less selfish.
She told Entertainment Tonight: "It's less about me. You become less self-obsessed and you let go of things. You forgive your parents for stuff, and you're more at peace and you're more motivated."
"You know you have to be an example for this child, so you have to be the best person. You can't just say, 'Do as I say, not as I do'. He's the best thing to happen to me, for sure."
Evan also revealed she worries about what the future will hold for her son.
She explained: "I think about what the world is going to be like for [my son] and his children. And there is a real part of me that wants to take him out for survival courses and things...because you just never know."
Last year, Evan admitted she once feared she "would never be happy" because she's bisexual and she still battles discrimination.
She tweeted: "I can assure you that whatever 'straight privilege' I sometimes get accused of having, gets erased by #biphobia
"I have battled with myself most of my life because I wasn't gay or straight enough. I used to think I would never be happy. #biphobia.
"I had to go through the same panic and shame and depression a lot of people in the LGBT [Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender] community go through but when I came out a new found shame took over. Bi-shame. Feeling like people are judging you all over again but for different reasons.
"A weight was lifted but not completely. I still feel like we have to constantly prove ourselves & our worthiness within the community.
"Point being, its ok. We do exist. No one knows your journey but you. #BisexualAwareness (sic)."
