Eva Green thinks her shyness is a “handicap”.
The 40-year-old actress lacks confidence and admitted she is “never good” if she has to go somewhere crowded with people, so she hates red carpet premieres and parties.
She said: “I am very shy. It is a handicap. I am never good when there are lots of people. It is a thing from my childhood, I can’t even explain why…
“I remember my first time [on the red carpet]. ‘The Dreamers’ was about to come out. It was an Armani event, and [Martin] Scorsese was at my table.
“I said to my agent, ‘I can’t go, I have nothing to tell him!’ But then [Giorgio] Armani took me aside and said, ‘We are going to do the red carpet!’ “
Eva has learned to cope with the events by doing breathing exercises in the bathroom and wearing elaborate outfits and make-up to protect herself.
She explained in an interview: “It protects me. Because otherwise it is very violent for me.
“I just wish sometimes that we didn’t have to talk, that we were just silent movie stars.”
The brunette beauty turned 40 in July and admitted she hates any form of celebrations for her birthday because she finds it so difficult to relax.
She said: “I am not a birthday girl at all. I always want everyone else to feel so good that I cannot relax.”
Eva recently admitted she hates wearing high heels and thinks they are "anti-feminist".
She said: My mother would tell you - I should know how to do my hair, to make an effort. I ought to wear more colours, to be more of a woman, but I like comfort too much.
"High heels just feel really anti-feminist to me, we're like birds on stilts."
