Sir Elton John still worked in a record shop in the 1970s.
The 'Rocket Man' hitmaker was already making music of his own but enjoyed spending his weekends serving customers in a London store because he was so interested to see what other people were listening to.
He said: "In 1970, 71, there was a music store called Music Land on Berwick Street in London which my friend worked in, which imported records and every Saturday, if I wasn't working, I'd go and work behind the counter and I loved it because I was just fascinated with what people bought and I loved being around 45s, EPs, cassettes, four-tracks, whatever, as long as it's music."
The 68-year-old singer is a self-confessed "anorak" when it comes to music, and records have always been a huge part of his life.
Speaking on BBC 6 Music's 'The First Time', he said: "Music's been part of my life, it's been my companion since I was three years old, in times of joy and in times of solace, it's always been there for me, to pick me up or be in the depths of despair with me.
"I've always listened to new stuff bought music, I'm an anorak and a fan, I still am.
"Nothing gives me more joy than going into an old vinyl store in Las Vegas called Wax Track Records, I'm like a kid in a candy store."
