Ellie Goulding is a feminist.
The 'On My Mind' hitmaker insists she is all for equality and admits she finds it frustrating that women in the music industry get slated for singing about the likes of a one night stand unlike their male counterparts.
She said: "I call myself a feminist because it's a word for someone who believes in equality. And yes, that's something I absolutely believe in.
"It annoys me that guys can easily write about one night stands, but if a girl writes about one? God, that's terrible, you know."
However, the 28-year-old singer is pleased to see "a lot of positive changes" in the industry.
She added to PEOPLE magazine: "There are a lot of positive changes in the music industry, and I see those with myself and my entire team, which is mostly women. The music industry is a very male-oriented industry [and] always has been since I've been around."
Meanwhile, Ellie previously revealed she would be working with Niall Horan on his solo material once One Direction take a two-year hiatus next year.
She shared: "I'm going to write with him. He's a really good guitarist and he's funny, cheeky, really cool. He's been my friend for quite a few years so I'm really up for it."
