Ellen DeGeneres is thrilled that gay marriage is legal again in California.
The chat show host, 55, who has been married to 'Arrested Development' star Portia de Rossi since 2008, is thrilled that the Supreme Court cleared the way for the resumption of same-sex marriage in California on Wednesday (26.06.13) and struck down the Defence of Marriage Act (DOMA) provision denying federal benefits to married gay couples.
She wrote on Twitter: "It's a supremely wonderful day for equality. Prop 8 is over, and so is DOMA. Congratulations everyone. And I mean everyone."
The ruling, which let stand earlier court declarations that Proposition 8 - a ballot that passed in late 2008 stating "only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognised in California" - was unconstitutional, was also welcomed by a huge number of other celebrities including 'Great Gatsby' star Leonardo DiCaprio, who tweeted: "Historic day. Well done #SCOTUS"
Lady Gaga, Nick Jonas, 'Modern Family star' Jessie Tyler Ferguson, 'Girls' creator and star Lena Dunham, British comedian Russell Brand, reality TV star Bridget Marquardt, singer Adam Lambert and U.S. President Barack Obama also expressed their support for the decision.
Singer-songwriter Melissa Etheridge was among those to announce she is planning to tie the knot with her girlfriend of three years Linda Wallem.
The 52-year-old singer revealed she plans to celebrate the ruling by "getting fully, completely and legally married" later this year to "my true love of over three years".
She added: "I look forward to exercising my American civil liberties."
