Don McLean was arrested for domestic violence on Monday (18.01.16).
The 70-year-old singer, most famous for his hit 'American Pie', was taken into custody and transported to Knox County Jail in Rockland, Maine, after officers were called to his property in Camden, Maine, in the early hours of the morning.
According to Camden's police chief Randy Gagne, Don was arrested without incident after police arrived at the scene.
He was later released after posting $10,000 bail.
'American Pie', penned about the tragic deaths of Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and the Big Bopper in a plane crash, was a huge hit for Don. He has collected an impressive 40 gold and platinum records throughout his career - mostly down to that one track.
He still performed on occasion, with his last show taking place at the Maine Lobster Festival back in August.
The singer is married to wife Patrisha, with whom he has two children.
He has not escaped scandal during his career, however, and was previously fined $400 back in 2013 after allegedly speeding in his Chrysler car through a school zone in Maine. His attorney claimed the school warning lights, which flash to indicate a 15mph limit, were not on. However, police contested that they were.
Don now has a court date set for February 22.
