Demi Lovato prefers dating guys who aren't "white".
The 23-year-old star - who dated fellow American singer Joe Jonas in the past - thinks Latino men are naturally more "emotional" and her six-year relationship with Wilmer Valderrama has been more "passionate" than any of her past romances.
The 'Confident' singer shared: "When I dated white guys, it wasn't as passionate as my relationship with Wilmer. Maybe that's just Wilmer. But I do believe that Latin people are just more expressive, more passionate with their emotions."
The 35-year-old actor - who makes a surprise appearance in her music video for 'Really Don't Care' - can be "stubborn", but Demi loves his "manly" and "protective" sides.
Speaking of Wilmer as her "best friend" she added: "He's very manly, and he can be stubborn like Latino men can, but he's protective and he cares so much and loves so hard. I've been blessed enough to have him in my life, and not just as my man, but also my best friend."
Demi is close to Wilmer's parents and has even learned to understand Spanish, their native language, and enjoys receiving cooking lessons from his mother.
She told Latina magazine: "His mom teaches me to cook. She showed me how to make arepas. I can understand Spanish better than I can speak it."
Demi checked into rehab in 2010 at the age of 19 to be treated for alcohol and drug abuse, as well as an eating disorder and persistent self-harming, and admits having the constant support of Wilmer has helped her overcome her issues.
She said: "I've actually been on a meal plan for almost two years now, because in my recovery I have to surrender control over food to somebody else so I can just focus on my mental state.
"I've been my heaviest in my relationship with Wilmer and also been my thinnest.
"He's seen it all and loves me equally, and it gives me confidence to know that."
