The 22-year-old singer paid tribute to the 'Keeping Up with the Kardashians' star - who spoke about his transition to female in a tell-all interview with Diane Sawyer which aired on Friday (24.04.15) - by dedicating her song 'Warrior' to him during a performance in New Zealand on Saturday (25.04.15).

She told the audience at the Vector Arena: "This whole fame thing starts taking over and people know your name and then all of a sudden - boom - you're in rehab.

"And then you're in headlines, and people know your problems now. And what's incredible is that an American hero, an Olympian... He was already an American hero in my country because of that. To be honest I didn't know that until 'Keeping Up with the Kardashians' and let's be honest neither did you.

"I just want to dedicate this song...It's so cheesy that I'm even doing this, but whatever.

"I want to dedicate it to someone who became an even bigger hero last night -- Bruce Jenner!

"No matter if you agree with it or not, he probably saved so many lives and educated so many people [about] transitioning into becoming a woman and being transgender and what that's all about. So, yeah, I just want to dedicate it to Bruce Jenner."

Demi - who is a friend of Bruce's stepdaughter Kim Kardashian West - admitted she "never, ever thought" she would be dedicating her music to the 65-year-old former Olympian.

She said: "By the way, never ever thought I'd dedicate a song to him but he was honest and he was open with his story.

The song includes the line: "This is a story that I have never told. I gotta get this off my chest to let it go."
