Demi Lovato has teamed up with an inspirational speaker for her new 'Demi World Tour'.
The 'Heart Attack' hitmaker, who sought treatment in rehab for eating disorders, drug abuse and a self-harming disorder in late 2010, has hired activist Spencer West to share "his empowering message" before she takes to the stage every night in favour of having a musical warm-up act.
Announcing the news on her Facebook page today (19.09.14), the 22-year-old star wrote: "Spencer West is not only a really great friend of mine, but a huge inspirational speaker. After I spent some time around him and realised what an amazing person he is and how incredible he is at speaking, I decided to bring him on tour."
The duo met in Africa in August 2013, where they were both volunteering with the organisation Free the Children, which seeks to educate, engage and empower young people to become active local and global citizens.
She added: "This is a different kind of tour and one of the things that makes it so special is my friend, Spencer. I'm so honored to have him on tour with me sharing his beautiful and empowering message with all of us."
Spencer said he "hopes to inspire folks to make the world a better place."
Demi, who kicked off the US leg of her concert series earlier this month, previously admitted she wants to surround herself with positive people to help her stay on track.
She said: "The kinds of people that I'm surrounding myself with now are people who are beneficial not only to my recovery but also to the lifestyle that I want to have, which is peaceful and serene. I look for people who I can hang out with without relying on bad habits to have fun--people who I can go bowling with, or literally just watch TV and knit with, people who love me for me and don't care if I'm tall or short, fat or thin.
