Demi Lovato is "proud" of how Lea Michele has handled Cory Monteith's death.

The 'Heart Attack' singer is set to join the cast of 'Glee' for its upcoming fifth season and has praised her new co-star for remaining strong following the death of her boyfriend, who played Finn Hudson on the show.

She said: "She's great. She's such a strong woman and I'm so proud of her. Love her so much."

Cory was found dead in a hotel room in Vancouver, British Columbia, in Canada after suffering a drug overdose and Lea, 27, and her co-stars recently returned to work on the hit show to film a tribute episode dedicated to him.

Meanwhile, Demi, 21, will play a love interest to Naya Rivera's character Santana Lopez on the new season of 'Glee' and she is honoured to represent the lesbian community on TV.

The 'X Factor' judge explained to Access Hollywood: "I think it represents where our society is today. It's becoming the norm and I'm really glad that I get to represent that -- how far we've come. You know, 15 years ago you wouldn't have seen that on TV, but now people are becoming more comfortable with it.

"I'm glad that I get to represent that, and also, just hopefully inspire people with my character to love who they are and accept who they are and not give a crap what other people think."
