Shane MacGowan has been discharged from hospital after being in intensive care for months.
The 65-year-old singer was diagnosed with viral encephalitis - a deadly infection that can cause brain damage and life-threatening complications - last year, and he has been receiving care at St Vincent's Hospital in Dublin, Ireland.
But the Pogues star's wife Victoria Mary Clarke, 57, has revealed he is now out of hospital, and the couple are "deeply and eternally grateful" to all the medical staff for looking after him.
She posted a picture of a smiling Shane on X, and wrote in the caption: "Shane got out of the hospital! We are deeply and eternally grateful to all of the doctors and nurses and staff at St Vincent’s it’s the best ! And special thanks to Tom Creagh and Brian Corscadden for your help @ShaneMacGowan @poguesofficial (sic)"
Last weekend, Victoria told how Shane was "so happy" to be visited by his pal Imelda May in hospital.
She posted a photo of the musical pair on X, writing on Sunday (19.11.23): “Shane is so happy to see @ImeldaOfficial.”
Imelda, 49, shared the post from Victoria - who tied the knot with Shane back in 2018 - adding: “My darlin’ Shane @ShaneMacGowan. So good to see you today. Best kisser. [winking face emoji] (sic)" "
Last week, Victoria - who married the Pogues frontman in 2018 - admitted Shane was feeling "much better" following his recent health scare.
She wrote on X: "Shane is feeling much better today! I am so grateful to everyone who is willing him to get home for the Christmas! @ShaneMacGowan @poguesofficial @EtainsDream (sic)"
