David Beckham has described Queen Elizabeth II as 'the most amazing woman.'

Beckham - who admits that he was raised in a patriotic family - says that getting the opportunity to meet the Queen was one of the best things that he has ever done.

Beckham went to Buckingham Palace in 2003 when he was awarded an OBE.

Speaking to the Sunday Time, Beckham said: [Queen Elizabeth] is the most amazing woman. I'm a real traditionalist. I'm a real royalist.

"The fact that I've been to Buckingham Palace and I've been able to meet the Queen, that's the best thing I've ever done. She's amazing.

"My grandparents brought me up to be a real royalist. They would make us sit down on Christmas Day and watch the Queen's speech and they would take us to the changing of the guard."

Beckham enjoyed a twenty year football career before he called time at the end of the 2012-13 season.

His career had seen him play for Manchester United, Real Madrid and LA Galaxy, as well as captaining the England side.

Now that Beckham has hung up his boots he says that he is looking forward to what lies ahead.

"I wouldn't say I have a bucketlist... I'm relatively young. You definitely start to embrace things a lot more."

Recently, we have seen Beckham lend his support to the Stand Up To Cancer campaign and the fight against Ebola.
