Dave Grohl performed 'Blackbird' for the In Memoriam tribute at the 2016 Academy Awards on Sunday night (28.02.16).
The Foo Fighters frontman took to the stage at the ceremony held at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles to sing a touching acoustic cover of the classic Beatles song written by Sir Paul McCartney.
As Grohl played and sang, accompanied by the show's symphony orchestra, a video tribute played in the background honouring the Academy members who had passed away in the last year.
Included in the montage were legendary British actor Sir Christopher Lee, David Bowie - who away from his music had a successful acting career appearing in films such as 'Labyrinth' and 'The Hunger' - Pixar screenwriter Daniel Gerson, 'Miracle on 34th Street' actress Maureen O'Hara, 'Harry Potter' star Alan Rickman, 'Star Trek' icon Leonard Nimoy and 'Titanic' composer James Horner.
Grohl's poignant cover came after performances by Best Original Song nominees Sam Smith and The Weeknd.
Grohl was accompanied to the star-studded Hollywood ceremony by his wife Jordyn Blum, and she looked stunning in a backless red lace dress.
