Daniel Radcliffe opts for as many different projects as possible now because he envied other young actors when he was playing Harry Potter.

Radcliffe - who portrayed the boy wizard in eight movies, shot over a 10-year period - admits his desire to tackle as many different projects as possible doesn't just stem from not wanting to be typecast.

He said: "Obviously there's a part of me that... I think it is connected to 'Potter,' but maybe not in the way that everyone thinks, where everyone kind of just thinks, 'Oh, he's doing all this to put that behind him and get away from it,'

"And actually, I think what it is more is that because I played one character for such a long time, and particularly towards the end of that 10 year period I started seeing like other British actors, you know, Aaron Johnson and Eddie Redmayne, Ben Whishaw and lots of people I sort of look up to, who go off and do, do loads of different projects and try lots of different things and I think it's sort of, you know, there's a little bit of envy and it sort of builds up inside yourself -- that desire to just try as many different things as possible

"So yeah, I guess now that I'm in a position that I can do that... I'm trying to while the going's good."

Daniel can next be seen in the second series of 'A Young Doctor's Notebook and Other Stories' opposite Jon Hamm and he had a lot of fun working with the 'Mad Men' star.

Speaking via satellite at the Television Critics Association Summer Tour in Beverly Hills, he said: "On a whole, this series is an incredibly fun one to film. Jon is a very funny guy, and sort of very irreverent and we have a lot of fun.

"Dancing with Jon in this [season] was great fun. I had to dip him at one point, which is not easy. We got a couple of lifts in there as well."
