Daniel Craig is "incredibly proud" to have an American passport.
The British actor has confirmed he is a US citizen following a lot of speculation and is pleased to be part of the population of immigrants which the country is "built upon".
Speaking at the 'Knives Out' premiere in Los Angeles, he told People magazine: "Everybody in this country's an immigrant.
"That's what the country's built upon. We can't forget it. We can't just dismiss it ... but it's difficult, and it takes thought, and it takes smart people thinking about it instead of dividing people along party lines ... and also along this anger that kind of builds up.
"It needs to be discussed... and that's hard.
"Good things are hard to do. I'm incredibly proud to be part of this, to have an American passport and call myself an immigrant in this country.""
And the 51-year-old actor is delighted to live in modern America.
He added: "I'm part of an amazing period in history that created this country and I'm proud to be a part of it."
Meanwhile, Daniel - who has daughter Ella with ex-wife Fiona Loudon and another daughter with wife Rachel Weisz - recently insisted he doesn't "look for approval" and doesn't worry about his grumpy image.
He said: "I don't do much to dispel it, because I'd just be chasing my tail to prove that I'm not the person people think I am.
"You know, I probably don't have a particularly good public persona. Some do. Some can go on talk shows and tell stories, but I'm just not wired that way.
"I don't know what to say. I can try, but people would go, 'What's he doing?' They'd go, 'Where is the grumpy f****r?'"
But contrary to popular perception, the 'James Bond' star claims he isn't actually "grumpy" at all.
He added: "I'm not grumpy. Genuinely, I'm not. I hope you can tell.
"I love what I do. I love this business, and I don't mind talking to journalists. I mean, I don't love it. Yet I don't mind talking about stuff I love. That's easy.
"But I just grew up in an era when, if you were trying to be an artist, you didn't look for approval. You didn't look for likes. You just did your thing. And this? This is what I do."
