As one of the most recognisable names in sport, Dame Jessica Ennis-Hill is now taking her career to yet another level, as country captain for the UK in next year's Vitality Running World Cup. Kicking off in March 2020, the event aims to give people across the globe the chance to represent their country in a free-to-enter running competition.

"It’s a real honour to be holding the position of captain for the UK in this competition," says Dame Ennis-Hill. "By taking part, millions of people will now have the chance to run for their country, which is a fantastic opportunity. I have always got so much out of sport and with this event being 3k or more, I believe it will appeal to so many people.  Whether you’ve never run before, or are an experienced runner, I hope you’ll all come together with me and start clocking up those runs next year.”

She's not the only big name involved however, with Usain Bolt serving as country captain for Jamaica.

He comments: "Nothing made me prouder in my career than running for my country – and this event is giving everyone the chance to do the same, no matter their level. I hope by being part of this and leading my country, I can help inspire people across the world to get involved. Good luck to all the countries taking part – especially Jamaica!"

Wherever you are in the world, you can participate in the competition by registering online at www.runningworldcup.com. From that point, every run registered via a fitness device or smartphone - which is at least 3k within 30 minutes - will contribute towards that individual's country's overall total.

The most competitive amongst us will want to get in there early, as countries with the highest number of kilometres will knock out others as the weeks go by.

Digital goody bags worth over $100 are also given to every person who completes their first qualifying run, with vouchers and discounts from popular brands and services.
