Cyndi Lauper wants her life to be filled with disappointment.
The 'Girls Just Want to Have Fun' hitmaker thinks it's essential that she experiences some setbacks in her journey through life otherwise she'll never be able to appreciate the good times and the success.
She explained: "My mother told me and my brother and my sister from a very young age that you stand up for those you love and for what you believe is right. If you don't, then you're really not living life the way you should, particularly when standing up for someone who needs it, when it's most the popular thing to do. It's made me a better person and I am grateful for that lesson.
"Life is way better when you stand up for what and who you believe in. I think every life has to have disappointments because disappointments make success all the sweeter."
But the 62-year-old singer has admitted it takes a lot of strength to pull herself back up once she's suffered a blow but credits the strong women in her life - including her mother - for pushing her.
She told Britain's Marie Claire magazine: "I come from a line of people who are steel and grit - Particularly the women in my family. So I learned early that if you get knocked down, you get back up again."
