Courteney Cox and Johnny McDaid can't agree on where to live.
The Snow Patrol rocker and the 'Cougar Town' actress ended their relationship last December, 18 months after they got engaged, but though they recently reconciled, they still have issues they need to resolve as the guitarist is keen to return to the UK, but his 51-year-old partner is worried about the impact that would have on her 10-year-old daughter Coco, who she has with ex-husband David Arquette.
A source said: "One of the main reasons that they split originally was because they couldn't agree on where to settle.
"Johnny desperately wants to move back to London where he has a studio, but Courteney doesn't want to uproot Coco, and says it would be too hard with the custody agreement she has with David."
The pair are even exploring the possibility of living on separate continents, though their friends are trying to dissuade them from the "bad idea".
The source added: "They've spoken about doing long distance but everyone has warned them it's a bad idea, including her best friend Jennifer Aniston, who almost split from Justin [Theroux] when he was living in New York and she was in LA.
"They're trying to work out a compromise because they both want to make it work."
Though the former 'Friends' star has been spotted wearing a ring on her engagement finger again, she and Johnny, 39, have not resumed their wedding plans.
A source told Grazia magazine: "It's not her engagement ring but they are definitely back together. They couldn't bear to be away from each other and the time apart has given them perspective. Friends are holding out hope that a wedding will still happen."
The couple confirmed they had reconciled when they walked the red carpet at the BMI Pop Awards at the Beverly Wilshire Four Seasons Hotel in Beverly Hills earlier this month.
Asked if they were making their reconciliation official, Courteney smiled, while her partner said: "Just look at us. I love her. I've always loved her."
