Coldplay will reportedly have to pay the NFL if they want to perform at the Super Bowl.
The 'A Sky Full of Stars' hitmakers are among a list of artists said to be in talks with The National Football League to perform during the prestigious halftime show at the annual championship game next year, but if they are chosen they will have to pay for the privilege, according to The Wall Street Journal.
While acts are not usually paid for the concert, the league is now said to be asking artists under consideration for the high profile gig to contribute a portion of their tour income to the league, or to make another type of donation, in exchange for the opportunity to perform.
'What Now' hitmaker Rihanna and queen of pop Katy Perry are also said to be in talks for the coveted slot.
Bruno Mars and the Red Hot Chili Peppers both played at the Super Bowl halftime show earlier this year, drawing in a record 115.3 million viewers, higher than the numbers who watched the match itself, according to the NFL.
The show has always been considered one of the most valuable promotional opportunities for artists in the music industry, with performers often releasing tickets for their tours immediately after their appearance on the field in order to capitalise on the exposure.
Beyonce - who performed a number of solo hits as well as being joined by her Destiny's Child bandmates at the event in 2013 - announced her 'Mrs. Carter Show' tour immediately after her half time gig and it went on to be the second highest grossing tour that year.
