The 'Thor' star's food intake was dropped dramatically to just 500 calories ahead of his portrayal of the stranded sailor in the drama film and he admits he was left feeling unwell after he gorged on pizza the minute filming wrapped.

He shared: "It gave us all a bit of a food hangover. It wasn't nearly as satisfying as I thought it would be."

His co-star Benjamin Walker added to the New York Daily News' Confidenti@l column: "I had about half of one [pizza slice] before I realised I should stop and my stomach had not had dairy or carbs in months and I was making a huge mistake. It was a wonderful minute and a half."

Meanwhile, the 32-year-old actor previously admitted he was left feeling "moody" when he had to shed the weight.

He said: "The gaining is fine, you just eat a lot and you lift weights but that was underfed, which led to a pretty moody existence and inconsistent emotions.

"You play all sorts of games - if I eat this maybe I don't eat that. The insanity is nuts. In order to do it justice, the story, we had to suffer in some way and we did. In other words, not a whole lot of acting was required. We were desperate."
