The 'I Don't Care' hitmaker tied the knot with Jean-Bernard Fernandez-Versini 18 months ago after a whirlwind romance but it is thought their marriage is already on the rocks, with the pair not being spotted together publicly since October.
A source said: "There are serious problems for Cheryl and JB. It's very sad and they're trying to make it work, but it could explain why she's clearly not in a good place. A lot of us thought she might move towards taking some sort of break earlier this year but she decided to give the relationship another go and try to make it work.
"But there's a feeling she's been unlucky in love and doesn't tend to pick the right men. Let's hope this won't be the most disastrous example of that ... There have been concerns raised about whether Cheryl really knew enough about JB to be able to dedicate her life to him."
The news that her ex-husband Ashley Cole is reportedly expecting a child with his Italian girlfriend is said to have only added to her woes.
A source told The Sun newspaper: "It's very obvious to everyone that Ashley was the love of Cheryl's life. She expected to be with him forever and for him to be the father of the babies she's desperately wanted. They are no longer in touch but hearing that news wasn't easy."
