Charlie Sheen is focusing on exercising and dieting.
The 'Two And A Half Men' star - who revealed in November that he has been HIV-positive for four years - is trying to keep himself "divorced from reality".
He told the Sunday People newspaper: "Now it's exercise, diet. I don't go on benders, don't drink as much.
"It was a combination of a lot of self-loathing, a lot of shame that was behind it. I just wanted to keep myself divorced from reality. I just woke up one day and said, 'I deserve better.'"
Meanwhile, the 50-year-old actor previously claimed he only had unprotected sex twice.
He said: "[It happened] a couple of times. Twice. And we would be having a different dialogue."
When asked if that meant he had only had unprotected sex twice, he added: "Oh yeah. I was always the guy that promoted it and said you've got to use condoms, this and that. I was too drunk or too bored one night and here we are."
And Charlie - who has Cassandra, 31, Sam, 12, Lola, 11 and twins Bob and Max, seven, from previous relationships - is glad he was able to speak out about his diagnosis so he can help others.
He added: "I have mad gratitude, 100 per cent. Thank you. My life is more fluid, it's more courageous, it's more heroic. If I'd known it was going to move towards that, I would have come out a lot sooner.
"Oftentimes, we're in the middle of things that feel like a curse or some measure of damnation. Then you move past that veil of judgement and you get to the other side and realise this helps others, you know? When I start a dialogue, the fires burn hotter. I'm fine with that. And boy, that is what happened."
