Catherine, Princess of Wales is ‘doing well’ after successful abdominal surgery

The 42-year-old was admitted to The London Clinic in Marylebone on Tuesday (16.01.24) for the planned procedure on Wednesday (17.01.24) afternoon.

Sources have now told The Times the princess is “doing well” in her recovery.

The future Queen is expected to remain in hospital for 10 to 14 days after which she will return home to Windsor to continue her recovery with the support of her family, Kensington Palace said.

Her recuperation could take two to three months, and her return to official duties will depend on medical advice closer to the time.

Catherine is not expected to return to public events until after Easter and her husband Prince William, 41, will combine being by his wife’s and their three children’s side throughout her recovery.

A statement from the Palace about Catherine’s procedure said: “The Princess of Wales appreciates the interest this statement will generate.

“She hopes that the public will understand her desire to maintain as much normality for her children as possible; and her wish that her personal medical information remains private.

“Kensington Palace will, therefore, only provide updates on Her Royal Highness’ progress when there is significant new information to share.

“The Princess of Wales wishes to apologise to all those concerned for the fact that she has to postpone her upcoming engagements.

“She looks forward to reinstating as many as possible, as soon as possible.”

Separately on Wednesday (17.01.24), Buckingham Palace said King Charles, 75, will attend hospital next week to be treated with a “corrective procedure” for an enlarged prostate.

The two health updates on senior royals came within 90 minutes of each other, with Kensington Palace’s coming at 2pm, followed by one from Buckingham Palace at 3.30pm.
