Cate Blanchett hates being called a "Hollywood actress."
The Oscar winner, who has appeared in 48 films to date, admits she isn't comfortable with the phrase because she thinks it is a subtle insult.
She said: "That's what they say about you when they want to insult you."
The 48-year-old star also admits she isn't a fan of social media and advises most of her younger co-stars to avoid it because she believes it "creates a culture of self-consciousness."
But the 'Carol' star says she learned a lot while running the Sydney Theatre Company and claims she no longer cares as much about what people think.
Speaking to the New York Times' style magazine, T, she explained: "I learned to not feel responsible to other people's perceptions of who you are. I suppose I've gone through a process of maturation, in a way, because running the company is a public position."
The 'Blue Jasmine' star stepped down as the co-director of the theatre in 2013 after five years at the helm, but she is still very involved as her husband Andrew Upton has agreed to run the company until the end of the year.
She added: "We do everything together."
