Carrie Underwood has slammed critics of her performance in the 'Sound of Music Live!' and thinks they 'need Jesus.'

The 30-year-old singer has slammed "mean people" following criticism of her acting in the 'Sound of Music Live!' on Thursday night (05.12.13), including by the one of the film's original stars.

The blonde beauty hit back on Friday night (06.12 13) tweeting: "Plain and simple: Mean people need Jesus.

"They will be in my prayers tonight...1 Peter 2:1-25."

She cited a Bible scripture that states to "rid yourselves of all malice and all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander of every kind."

The 'Blown Away' hitmaker's retort came just hours after Kym Karath, who played Greti von Trapp in the 1956 musical film, said she was "disappointed" by Carrie's portrayal of Maria von Trapp, originally played by Julie Andrews, but approved of 'True Blood' star Stephen Moyer's performance.

She added: "Love Carrie Underwood but this role is just not right for her. She is lovely her voice is beautiful but acting is wrong."

Carrie previously shared her excitement about her performance after the show finished, tweeting: "Glory to God tonight...I couldn't be more proud. What a tough thing to pull off and we did it! I am so blessed!!!"
