Boris Johnson's wife Carrie Johnson ordered "decoy" dresses in the run up to her secret wedding.
The political activist tied the knot with the UK prime minister over the weekend and it has been reported that she ordered a number of dresses in four different colours - including white - to Downing Street so that their secret wedding wouldn't be rumbled before the nuptials.
Speaking to the Evening Standard newspaper, Sacha Newall, who co-founded dress rental service My Wardrobe HQ in 2018, shared: "We didn't know what it was for. We were just asked to supply some items. Then we saw what happened this weekend. It was all a bit of a surprise."
The dress was rented for £45 a day, rather than costing £2,830 new, it has been reported.
And fashion experts believe Carrie's decision to rent her wedding dress could lead to an exciting future when it comes to rental outfits going forward.
Jane Shepherdson CBE, Chair of My Wardrobe HQ, said: "It’s very exciting for the future of fashion and its circularity to see that someone with Carrie’s profile, and with so many options open to her, has chosen to champion fashion rental and a sustainable way of shopping."
Whilst Victoria Prew, who founded dress rental service HURR, added: "With the rules constantly changing and plans altering last minute, HURR takes the stress out of buying a wedding dress on top of everything else. Weddings are the ultimate "wear once" occasion. So, why buy?"
