Carey Mulligan has revealed she was "neurotic" during her childhood.
Although she was a very confident youngster, the 29-year-old actress was always nervous whenever exam periods came around and suffered from anxiety.
She said "I was confident but I was so neurotic. On a few occasions, I threw up before tests. I was anxious about being tested, for some reason."
The 'Suffragette' star, her brother and their hotelier parents moved around a lot when the actress was younger and she admits that, as a result, she has to try hard not to change herself in an attempt to fit in.
Speaking in the new issue of Harper's Bazaar magazine, she said: "I moved around a lot, so I always had to meet new people. I was never the most popular or the most interesting person ... It took me a long time to stop adapting my personality to others."
And even from a young age Carey's biggest passion was acting, and she admits she was much more confident about her performances back then.
She said: "I've got more nervous now. But I wasn't remotely nervous when I was younger.
"I had a great time at school, but I wasn't massively interested in doing much apart from drama."
The full interview and cover shoot with Carey appears in the December Women of the Year issue of Harper's Bazaar, on sale November 4.
