Burt Reynolds still regrets his split with Sally Field, 32 years ago.
The 79-year-old actor says his frequent co-star - who he dated for several years in the late 1970s and early 1980s - is the one who got away but she is too smart to ever take him back.
He said: "She was the love of my life. I miss her. Even today I think she's something special - the best thing that ever happened to me. Our break up is the biggest regret of my life. I would have been better when I was grown up and a lot more mature. I was pretty wild.
"She's too smart for [a reunion]."
Burt's romantic regrets also include turning down Greta Garbo.
He said: "I didn't know it was Greta Garbo. I should have written her a note and said I was foolish, because I would've given anything for a second chance."
And Burt said his professional "mistakes" include agreeing to pose as the first-ever male nude centrefold in Cosmopolitan magazine.
He told the Daily Express newspaper: "It was one of the biggest mistakes I've ever made. I'm still embarrassed by it and I sorely regret doing it."
