A termination hearing for the conservatorship under which Britney Spears was placed 13 years ago ended with the singer finally being freed from the clutches of the restrictive deal.
Spears took to Instagram ahead of the hearing with her fiancé Sam Asghari - the pair wearing matching #FreeBritney T-shirts in a nod to the fan-led campaign which has been calling for the end of the conservatorship for many years.
The tee also bore the slogan, 'It's a human rights movement.'
Judge Brenda Penny said that "the current situation is untenable" but, stopped short of finding Spears father James Spears of wrongdoing, instead pointing to a "toxic environment" as the reason for the conservatorship's termination.
Jamie had eventually agreed to step down from his role in the conservatorship, but not until after a long and arduous process which has left what looks to be an unfixable break in the bond between father and daughter.
The conservatorship will come to an end with "immediate effect", according to the judge.
Still, "ongoing financial concerns related to the case" will continue to be looked at by a conservator - thankfully not Spears' father - but this is expected to be a process that ends with the singer's fully-fledged, new-found financial freedom.
Accountant John Zabel will deal with that process, with "limited and administrative power".
Fans erupted into applause outside the Los Angeles court when the judge's decision was revealed, after just a 30-minute hearing. They have been fighting for Spears to have a say in controlling her own life, including making decisions in regards to money, health and even going out for a drive, which she has had to ask for permission for up to this point.
Spears wasn't thought to be in attendance at the hearing, as she didn't turn up with her lawyer Matthew Rosengart when he arrived at court.
Rosengart will now continue to push for her father and the estate's former business manager, Tri Star Sports & Entertainment Group, to be investigated for financial mismanagement.
Spears herself said earlier this year that she believed her father should be behind bars. Whether that will come to fruition however, remains to be seen.
A 'Freedom Party' has already been planned by some fans in West Hollywood, which will take place later this evening.
Additional hearings in relation to the case have been set for December 8th, 2021 and January 19th, 2022.
