Blythe Danner thinks people are "intimidated" by Gwyneth Paltrow.
The 72-year-old star believes her Oscar-winning actress daughter, who also runs her own lifestyle brand Goop, only attracts a lot of criticism because she is "so accomplished" and successful.
The 'I'll See You in My Dreams' actress said: "I'm so proud of her. I think she's so accomplished that people get kind of intimidated by it."
Blythe, who husband Bruce Paltrow died from cancer in 2002, also claims the 42-year-old actress, who has daughter Apple, 10, and son Moses, nine, with ex-husband Chris Martin, is becoming a "great environmentalist" and is secretly very selfless.
She told the 'TODAY' show: "I know she's the most extraordinary girl who can do everything. Incredible mother, she's raising hundreds of thousands of dollars for my husband's oral cancer foundation -- things she doesn't talk about a lot."
The 'Meet the Fockers' star previously praised Gwyneth and Coldplay frontman Chris for the way in which they handled their split in March 2014.
She said: "They are so smart...both incredibly brilliant. They're making it work, they're great friends and the kids are in wonderful shape. So I have to take my hat off to both of them."
