Bill Murray has revealed that he is not a big fan of child actors and thinks that they should be ‘taken out and shot.’
Murray has not minced his words when it has come to child stars and believes that their parents should also suffer a similar fate. However, his latest child co-star Jaeden Lieberher was an exception to this harsh rule.
Murray and Lieberher have teamed up for the first time in new comedy St Vincent, and the veteran actor has called the younger ‘more professional’ than some of the more established stars that he has worked with over the years.
Speaking to the Metro newspaper, Murray said: "Most kid actors should be taken out and shot, let's face it. And their parents too.
"Yet this kid [Jaeden Lieberher] was more professional than most of the actors I've worked with. He was completely prepared and he has a wonderful mother and father who keep him normal. He never became a movie-star brat."
Murray was so impressed with the work of the youngster on St Vincent, that his praise went a long way to him being hired by Cameron Crowe for another film, which Murray is also going to star in.
The actor continued: "I was making a movie with Cameron Crowe after I finished this one and Cameron asked me what I thought of him.
"I said, 'I don't like kid actors.' Three days later, I had to call him and say, 'OK, this kid's good.' The next day, Cameron hired him."
St Vincent is a movie that has been performing well on the festival circuit this autumn and sees Theodore Melfi make his feature film directorial debut. Melfi has a series of shorts such as I Want Candy and The Beneficiary under his belt, but this movie marks his transition into feature film.
He has brought together a terrific cast for the film, as Murray and Lieberher are joined by Melissa McCarthy, Naomi Watts, Chris O’Dowd, and Terrence Howard.
As for Murray, he has already completed work on the as yet untitled Cameron Crowe directed project and Rock the Kasbah. He is currently lending his voice to movie B.O.O.: Bureau of Otherworldly Operations and The Jungle Book. He is set to voice the character of Baloo in the Jon Favreau directed interpretation of the Rudyard Kipling classic.
St Vincent is released 5th December.
