Benedict Cumberbatch's future in-laws are reported to be "very happy" about his engagement to their daughter, Sophie Hunter.
The actor announced plans to marry his girlfriend yesterday in a subtle, £270 plus VAT notice in The Times newspaper, and Sophie's mother Katharine is overjoyed after hearing the news.
Katharine said: "We are very happy for them. It's a really fabulous day.
"It's only just been announced so we don't know any more but it's lovely news."
Sophie's younger brother Patrick also approves, telling the Daily Mirror: "We're all very happy for Soph - it's really exciting."
The engagement notice appeared in the Births, Marriages and Deaths section of the newspaper, reading: "The engagement is announced between Benedict, son of Wanda and Timothy Cumberbatch of London, and Sophie, daughter of Katharine Hunter of Edinburgh and Charles Hunter of London."
A wedding date has not yet been announced.
