Ashlee Simpson feels she's become a "stronger" person since her 'Saturday Night Live' drama.
The 33-year-old star was widely criticised following her appearance on the comedy show in October 2004, when it emerged during her performance that she'd lip-synced her way through one of her hit tracks - but Ashlee feels she's now moved on from the controversy.
She said: "It's definitely not difficult to talk about ... that was a very long time ago.
"It's something that happened to me and things in life happen to you and they make you stronger and they make you a better performer, a better person. I think things like that build your character and your strength and it's how you handle them."
Ashlee has largely withdrawn from the spotlight following the incident on 'Saturday Night Live'.
But with the launch of her new docu-series ASHLEE+EVAN - which also stars her husband Evan Ross - fans will be given an insight into her personal evolution.
She told E! News: "For me, I feel like it's been such a long time since I've been out.
"I came to a place where I was like, 'Well I do want people to know where I'm at and who I am in my life.' I was a teen, angsty girl on my show back in the day and now I'm a woman and a mother."
Meanwhile, Ashlee - who already has kids Jagger, three, and Bronx, nine - recently revealed that she and Evan plan to expand their brood next year.
Asked about the possibility of extending their family, the singer - who is the younger sister of Jessica Simpson - shared: "It's definitely soon ... in the next year. Definitely in the next year would be nice."
