Arnold Schwarzenegger has warned the planet could be “eliminated” by climate change if action isn’t taken.
The ‘Terminator’ star has compared the threat of climate change to the destruction seen in his hugely popular film franchise, as he insisted people are “confused and tuned out” when it comes to environmental issues because there “is no hope” for the world.
He said: “No one is going to invest huge sums of money in a movie where there is no hope. Yet frequently I hear environmentalists talking about the existential threat of climate change … we are going to be eliminated.
“Is it any wonder that people are confused and tuned out? This movie doesn’t have a story line except constant alarm which cannot be sustained.”
Arnold has devoted time to environmental causes for a decade, and has urged people to focus their energy on lowering pollution levels.
Speaking at the Austrian World Summit in Vienna, he added: “Pollution is enemy number one … it is the very thing that causes climate change.
“Humans can solve it — we can kill it, we can terminate it.”
The 73-year-old actor and retired bodybuilder was once the Governor of California between 2003 and 2011, and began taking an interest in climate issues after leaving political office 10 years ago.
Meanwhile, Arnold recently gave his view on reality star and former Olympian Caitlyn Jenner’s decision to run to become the same political position he once held.
The ‘Predator’ actor urged the ‘I Am Cait’ star to outline a "clear vision" for the state.
He said: "The key thing about all of this is, it doesn't matter if it's Caitlyn or it's anyone else. Do you have a clear vision where you want to go? What are the kind of changes you want to make, and why are you qualified to become governor?
"That's what you have to convince the people."
